How to Name Your New Dog
It is exciting to get a new dog. I have happy memories of getting a new puppy and I remember how fun it was to start this new journey with them. I had to take care of and train my new pet. Among the fun aspects of getting a new pet was picking the name. Sometimes it was an easy process, sometimes it was a little harder to decide on, but it was always important. Picking the perfect name can be easier by following a few simple suggestions.
*Look at your new dog before naming him or her. Sometimes your pet will have certain traits that make naming easier. Their color might inspire you, or they might even look like another animal. We had a dog that actually looked like a little fluffy bear, so we named it, "Oso", which means "bear" in Spanish. It was a great name.
*Remember that you will be calling this name for years to come. It's important to pick a name that is easy to pronounce and short. If you must choose a long name, come up with a nickname too.
*Make it fun! Sometimes creative names are the most fun. Funny names are great if your pet has a goofy personality. Don't always go with the common names. Just be creative. We once had a greyhound named "Paco". Great combo. Or how about a Basset Hound named "Homer" or "Hound Dog"?
*Look for inspiration. Look in books, think of your actors favorite names, and ask friends. One of my favorite ways to find names is to look online. Good luck and enjoy your new friend!
